The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), working jointly with the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), has summoned senior leaders of the Uganda Music Promoters SACCO (UMPS), including Abbey Musinguzi alias Abitex, following a whistleblower complaint by Nobat Events over alleged mismanagement of Shs1.5 billion.
The funds, issued in January 2026 by H.E. President Yoweri Museveni as a revolving fund to support music promoters, are now the subject of an official probe after Nobat Events reportedly raised concerns about how the money was handled.
In a letter dated 6 February 2026 under reference CID/ACU/043/26, CID invited UMPS Chairperson Mr. Katongole Paul and other SACCO leaders to appear before investigators at the SHACU offices, located on the 4th Floor of the President’s Office, Parliament Building, on Monday 9 February 2026 at 9:00am.

Those summoned to assist with investigations include:
Mr. Katongole Paul – Chairperson, UMPS
Mr. Mayanja Godfrey
Mr. Kawesi Yasin
Mr. Abbey Musinguzi (Abitex)
Mr. Kafero Zaidi
CID states that the investigations relate to allegations of financial mismanagement of the Shs1.5 billion fund and that the summoned individuals are required to provide information to aid the inquiry.
The letter was issued on behalf of the Deputy Director CID in charge of Economic Fraud and Anti-Corruption and copied to the Director CID and the Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
Authorities emphasize that the matter is still under investigation and that the invitations do not amount to criminal charges at this stage.
