Renowned Ugandan DJ Roja has hailed DJ Etania as the best female deejay in Uganda, applauding her for setting the standard in a rapidly evolving entertainment industry where talent alone is no longer enough.
Speaking on the growth of the deejaying scene, DJ Roja emphasized that modern DJs must go beyond mixing music to remain relevant and competitive. According to him, Etania’s rise to the top is a result of hard work, consistency, versatility, and exceptional personal branding.
“You can’t just be a deejay. So many factors make you who you are. Etania is an emcee, she’s a dancer, she has branded herself so well. She appeared on Kampala Crème, she’s a vibe, she has travelled, and she’s a girlfriend to a star,” Roja said.
Roja noted that Etania’s all-round appeal is what separates her from her peers, making her a standout figure in Uganda’s entertainment space. He added that her dedication and consistency are the reason she enjoys strong support from many male deejays in the industry.

The celebrated DJ also weighed in on media personality Sheilah Gashumba, who officially joined the deejaying scene toward the end of last year. Roja pointed out that, much like Etania, Sheilah brings more to the table than just deejaying skills.
“Beyond deejaying, she’s an influencer, she’s an emcee, she’s a host. She dresses well, she looks good,” he said.
Roja further mentioned other female DJs such as Lynda Ddane, stressing that today’s deejays must be multifaceted to thrive.
“You can’t just be mixing two songs and leave and think people will embrace you. You need to hustle, you need to go astray and do other things to add onto your brand,” he explained.
His remarks highlight a growing trend in Uganda’s entertainment industry, where branding, personality, and versatility have become just as important as technical skill, especially for female DJs aiming to dominate the scene.
