Kadongo Kamu artist Kazibwe Kapo has opened up about why he deliberately keeps away from active politics, a path many Ugandan musicians have recently embraced.
Kapo says he values peace of mind more than the stress, pressure, and public scrutiny that come with political leadership. According to him, politics demands a level of emotional flexibility he simply doesn’t possess.
He explained that he cannot pretend to like people for political gain, making it impossible for him to fit into the world of handshakes, fake smiles, and mass appeal.
“I don’t want to contest for any political position, not even LC. I don’t want to stress myself,” Kapo said.
“Being an active political leader is not my thing because I can’t pretend. When I don’t like you, I show it. I don’t wear fake or plastic smiles.”
Kapo added that politics often requires a leader to be socially open and willing to interact with everyone—something he admits isn’t in his nature.
“I can’t hug someone dirty because I want votes. That’s not me. But if you can’t do that as a leader, you can’t win an election.”
With that, the singer made it clear that while others may blend art with politics, his path remains firmly rooted in music and authenticity.
