In a moment that will go down in the history of Ugandan football, Proline Soccer Academy director Mujib Kasule proudly welcomed His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II to the academy grounds in Lugogo on Saturday, August 2, 2025.
The visit, held at the National Hockey Grounds near the National Council of Sports, came with even more excitement as the Kabaka’s son, Prince Richard Ssemakookiro, officially enrolled for football training at the academy.
The royal visit not only marked a monumental day for the Proline Soccer Academy fraternity but also symbolized a growing bridge between Uganda’s cultural heritage and modern sports development.
“I was so honoured to have hosted the Kabaka and had special interaction with him,” said a visibly moved Mujib Kasule during an interview with UBC TV, shortly after the CHAN 2024 opener between Tanzania and Burkina Faso.
“Hosting such a high-profile personality gives us energy and the motivation to push even harder,” he added.
The Prince, who has already started attending training sessions, was seen in viral online videos confidently engaging in drills alongside fellow young players. His involvement at the grassroots level has sparked excitement among fans and football lovers across the country, many of whom are curious to see whether he will pursue football seriously.
Prince Ssemakookiro seems to be walking in the footsteps of his father, Kabaka Mutebi II, who also played football in his youth. His presence on the pitch — from dribbling to ball control — has already captured public interest, adding a royal touch to Uganda’s football scene.
Kabaka Mutebi II’s visit also reinforces Proline Academy’s role in national development, as it becomes the second time a royal figure has set foot at the academy — the first being King Oyo of Tooro Kingdom several years ago.
Founded in 2006, Proline Soccer Academy is one of Uganda’s leading football institutions. Under the leadership of Mujib Kasule, a former Uganda Cranes star and FIFA/CAF instructor, the academy has nurtured countless football talents and competed in both the FUFA Big League and the Uganda Premier League. The academy has also previously hosted international football legend Rio Ferdinand of England.
With Prince Ssemakookiro now among its newest recruits and the Kabaka’s public show of support, the academy’s profile is expected to grow even further — inspiring a new generation of young Ugandans to dream big on and off the pitch.
