Celebrated Ugandan songstress Rema Namakula has revealed that despite being married to a professional gynaecologist, Dr. Hamza Ssebunya, he has never medically attended to her in that capacity.
While addressing journalists recently, the “Ngonze” hitmaker clarified that she has a personal gynaecologist who handles her intimate health concerns, not her husband. She cited both professional ethics and personal boundaries as the main reasons for this decision.
“He is a gynaecologist, yes, but not mine. I have my own gynaecologist,” Rema explained. “Apart from simple illnesses, I no longer pay consultation fees because he knows what I need. But when it comes to sexual and reproductive health, he doesn’t involve himself.”
According to Rema, Ugandan medical laws discourage doctors from treating close family members, especially in fields like gynaecology, where emotional attachments may affect professional judgment.
“The medical laws do not allow doctors to handle their family members unless it’s an emergency or something not too serious. That’s why he keeps his distance in such matters,” she added.
However, she did acknowledge that Dr. Hamza often offers her guidance on general health issues, helping her cut down on unnecessary consultations. “That has saved me a lot. I now get most of the medical direction I need from home,” she said with a smile.
The celebrity couple has remained a favorite among fans since their glamorous traditional wedding in 2019, and continue to serve couple goals both privately and in public appearances.
