A Pass Reveals Injuries After Alleged Election Day Assault

Ugandan singer A Pass has revealed injuries he claims to have sustained after allegedly being assaulted during the January 15 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Uganda went to the polls under heavy security, accompanied by a nationwide internet shutdown that left many citizens cut off from real-time information. In a video shared on his Instagram page, the award-winning artist disclosed that he was attacked near a polling station on election day.

According to A Pass, the incident occurred approximately 50 meters from the polling station, where he says he was ambushed by three men.

“Bakubye nze. Naye nga tewali nansonga yona.

50 meters away from the polling station and they ambushed me. I didn’t see them coming — three men, two in army uniform and one casually dressed,” A Pass said in the video caption.

Unprovoked Attack Alleged

The singer, who has openly expressed support for the National Unity Platform (NUP) and is known for speaking out against injustice and abuse of power, described the attack as unprovoked. He did not disclose whether he reported the incident to authorities but used the video to draw attention to what he described as the harsh realities faced by citizens during the election period.

A Pass’ revelation has sparked mixed reactions online, with fans and fellow artists expressing concern over his safety while others questioned the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Tense Election Period

The January 15 elections were held amid heightened tension, with reports of intimidation, arrests, and restricted movement in several parts of the country. The Electoral Commission later declared President Yoweri Museveni the winner of the presidential race, securing over 70 percent of the total valid votes.

As conversations about election-day violence continue, A Pass’ claims add to the growing list of voices highlighting alleged abuses during Uganda’s electoral process.
