Abitex Cancels Jose Chameleone’s 5th August Concert, Says Artist Asked for “Abnormal” Fees

Veteran events promoter Abitex has officially cancelled the much-anticipated 5th August concert he had organized in honor of music legend Dr. Jose Chameleone. The announcement comes amid growing speculation about disagreements between the two longtime collaborators.

Speaking to media, Abitex confirmed that while the 5th August date will still feature a mega concert, it will no longer be solely dedicated to Chameleone. Instead, it has been rebranded into a general celebration featuring various top Ugandan artists.

“I’ve called off the Chameleone-only event, but the show will go on with multiple performers. If Chameleone still wants to celebrate himself, he’s free to choose another day—or even work with another promoter,” Abitex stated.

When pressed about whether there was a fallout with the Leone Island boss, Abitex was quick to deny any bad blood. However, he hinted at financial disagreements as the root cause of the cancellation.

“Chameleone asked for an abnormal amount of money—figures that don’t make business sense. I’m no longer star struck. I make decisions based on calculations, not emotions,” Abitex revealed.

Jose Chameleone, one of Uganda’s biggest music exports, has yet to respond to the developments. The “Bayuda” hitmaker had been expected to headline a massive celebration commemorating his legacy in the industry.

The cancellation marks a shift in how promoters are approaching artist partnerships, with Abitex emphasizing sustainability and mutual understanding over celebrity hype.
