Agnes Kirabo, the Youth Member of Parliament representing Uganda’s Central Region and partner of popular musician Mr Lee, has faced a major political setback after losing the Luwero District Woman Member of Parliament race, a contest that has since been marred by allegations of electoral malpractice.
Kirabo, who contested on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, had hoped to transition from youth representation to mainstream parliamentary leadership. However, she was defeated by the incumbent, Brenda Nabukenya of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

According to official Electoral Commission results, Nabukenya polled 67,339 votes, while Kirabo secured 55,696 votes, handing the NUP candidate a decisive victory in the hotly contested race.
Speaking after being declared winner, Nabukenya accused Kirabo and her camp of attempting to undermine the will of the voters through alleged irregularities during the polling process.
“We won at almost every polling station across the district, but the NRM candidate wanted to be declared the winner. There was ballot stuffing and other malpractices, but the people’s voice prevailed. We won by a landslide and they couldn’t catch up,” Nabukenya said.
Despite the accusations, Kirabo was unable to overturn the outcome and later conceded defeat, effectively ending her bid for the Luwero Woman MP seat.
Kirabo’s campaign attracted significant public attention, largely due to her association with singer Mr Lee. For nearly three months, the couple traversed Luwero District, jointly campaigning and mobilising voters in an effort to secure victory.
Political analysts say the loss is a serious blow to Kirabo’s ambition to expand her political influence beyond youth representation, especially given the high-profile nature of her campaign. The result also reinforces NUP’s strong political foothold in Luwero District, with voters once again reaffirming their confidence in Brenda Nabukenya’s leadership.
As the political dust settles, attention now turns to Kirabo’s next move, while Nabukenya prepares to continue her parliamentary work with renewed backing from her constituents.
