AIGP Kataratambi Charles Departs This Life

The Uganda Police Force spokesperson announced the untimely death of AIGP (Assistant Inspector General of Police) Kataratambi on 2, October, 2025.

Charles Kataratambi was currently serving as the police force's Human Rights and legal services Directorate. He had been battling several critical health complications for a while.

The news about the demise of police’s former spy chief comes as a shock to the police fraternity and the general public.

"The Uganda Police Force fraternity deeply regrets to announce the untimely passing of Assistant Inspector General of Police Kataratambi Charles, director of Human Rights and Legal Services, which occurred on Thursday. Details regarding burial arrangements will be shared in due course." The statement read in part.

While the police did not reveal an official statement concerning cause of death, it's been known that the late was in and out of Hospital over the years due to a couple of health conditions.

Kataratambi's remarkable career with the police forces spans two decades. After law school, he, together with contemporaries like Fred Enanga (deputy director of Interpol and International relations) enrolled as cadets at the police forces training school in 2001.

Over the years, he has served in different police departments, rising through the ranks to lead key units including the Special Investigations Division (SID), Police Flying Squad, and the directorate of Human Rights and Legal Services.

However, in 2015, his career faced some impediments, when he was arrested over mishandling of the Kyetume-Katosi road scam case. The late AIGP Kataratambi was later cleared of any wrong doing, and in 2025, president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni appointed him to head the forces' Directorate of Human Rights and Legal Services.
