Arsenal, yet again held a narrow lead late into the game against fellow London side, Fulham, moving back to the top of the table. Leandro Trossard converted home at close range from a Bukayo Saka assist.
The gunners fought hard to clinch a 1-0 win away from home. It wasn’t an easy win for the visitors, who almost dropped points. But the power of set-pieces got the job done. Bukayo Saka was impressive, he created several chances and caused tremendous problems to the hosts’ defense throughout the 90 minutes.
Arsenal has always had a hard time at the Craven Cottage. They were somewhat scrappy in the first half, the only shot on target was by Viktor Gyokeres.
It was a close and tight game, but Arsenal proved the better side and clinched three crucial points. The win keeps Arsenal at the top of the table standings despite Manchester City’s victory against Everton earlier in the day.
Mikel Arteta felt his side deserved the win. “We kept knocking on the door in various ways and in the end we find a way with the set-piece to do it but we deserved it in the end," Arteta said
He stressed that the team should keep the momentum ahead of next week’s clash with Atletico Madrid in the Champions league.
“We had a spell in the first 10-15 minutes where we had a few giveaways and transitions and momentum to them without them really doing much. We have to keep going now. We have another big one on Tuesday [at home to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League], they are coming thick and fast."
