Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Clive Nsiima has been remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of assault and malicious damage to property, following a viral CCTV video that captured him slapping a female shop attendant at a petrol station in Kyanja, a Kampala suburb.
The incident, which occurred on October 7, triggered widespread public outrage after the footage spread on social media, prompting the Uganda Police Force to take swift disciplinary and criminal action against the officer.
In the viral video, Nsiima is seen entering the station shop with a female companion, selecting several items, and later attacking the attendant after she insisted he pay before leaving.
After his arrest, Nsiima spent four days in police custody before appearing on Monday, October 13, before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Nicholas Aisu at City Hall Court. The magistrate ordered that he be remanded until October 16, when court will rule on his bail application.
Nsiima’s lawyer told court that both parties had reached a reconciliation agreement, but the prosecution maintained that the case remains criminal and must go through judicial determination.
The Uganda Police Force is yet to issue an official statement on the officer’s disciplinary status, though sources say internal disciplinary proceedings are underway.
