Big Changes as Manchester United Face Grimsby Town in Carabao Cup Match

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made eight changes to his team as they get ready to play Grimsby Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Only Amad Diallo, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, and Matheus Cunha keep their spots from the team that beat Fulham last weekend in the Premier League.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana is back in action for the first time this season. In defence, Harry Maguire is named captain and plays alongside two young players — Tyler Fredricson and Ayden Heaven.

Diogo Dalot is expected to play at right-back, pushing Amad into a more attacking role with Cunha. In midfield, young star Kobbie Mainoo partners with new signing Manuel Ugarte.

Up front, Benjamin Sesko makes his first full start for Manchester United after coming off the bench in recent matches against Arsenal and Fulham.

“He [Sesko] is doing well,” said Amorim before the game. “He just needs to focus on his role and stick to what we’ve trained for.”

Amorim also spoke about his belief in Mainoo:

“I expect a lot from Kobbie. He needs to fight for his place. I believe in him – maybe more than people realise.”

Manchester United Starting XI:

Onana; Fredricson, Maguire (c), Heaven; Dalot, Ugarte, Mainoo, Dorgu; Amad, Cunha; Sesko.

Substitutes:

Bayindir, Heaton, De Ligt, Leon, Casemiro, Fernandes, Mount, Mbeumo, Zirkzee.

This Carabao Cup tie is a chance for United’s young players and new signings to prove themselves, while the team aims to move on to the next round of the competition.
