Ugandan singer Chozen Blood has finally spoken out about the bitter fallout with his former boss Jeff Kiwa, following his departure from the Team No Sleep (TNS) music camp back in 2018.
In an exclusive recount of events, Chozen Blood revealed that his association with TNS was never formalized and that this lack of structure was a major cause of conflict that eventually led to a violent altercation in a city bar.
Chozen Bloodâs entry into TNS came through a successful collaboration with Sheebah Karungi on the song âWadawa Ex.â According to him, the collaboration happened after he left a demo of the track at Nessim's studio during a trip to the U.K. Upon his return, he discovered that Jeff Kiwa, the head of TNS, had shown interest in the song â initially wanting to buy it for Sheebah. However, Chozen insisted on making it a collaboration, which turned into a hit.
âFrom that, it was suggested that we start working together under TNS, but there was no formal agreement,â Chozen shared.
After two years under the TNS umbrella, the âYitayoâ singer said he saw no tangible direction in his career and made the decision to exit. However, his departure wasnât taken lightly by Jeff Kiwa. The lack of a written contract made things messy.
âEverything was by word of mouth. We made many promises, but always failed at execution. It was a street vibe, and I couldnât manage to stay there,â he explained.
Following his exit, tensions reached their peak one night in October 2018 at Sky Lounge, a popular hangout spot in Kampala. Chozen recalls running into Jeff, and emotions flared.
âWe were all drunk. It is alleged that some of the people I was with kept flashing their middle fingers at Jeff. It must have annoyed him, and a fight broke out before he was thrown out of the bar,â he narrated.
Although the confrontation officially severed ties between the two, Chozen says he still holds respect for Jeff but admits they havenât spoken since that day.
Now focused on his solo career, Chozen Blood has continued to release music independently, maintaining his signature blend of R&B and Afrobeat. Despite the turbulent past, the singer seems to have learned from the experience and continues to grow his brand outside of the TNS shadow.
