Comedian and aspiring politician Reign Omusoyisoyi, real name Obed Lubega, has finally spoken out on swirling rumors linking him to Kampala Woman MP Shamim Malende.
Reign, best known as one-half of the comedy duo Maulana and Reign, was on Tuesday spotted at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Kavule, where he had turned up for vetting as an aspirant for the Rubaga South parliamentary seat.
Photos of him seen seated close to Malende quickly spread across social media, sparking fresh speculation about an alleged secret relationship. The chatter intensified following the dramatic collapse of Malende’s marriage to Andrew Ssebunya, fueling gossip that Reign could be the new man in her life.
When pressed by journalists after the vetting exercise, Reign—who appeared slightly uncomfortable—dismissed attempts to extract personal details, insisting that his focus remains on politics.
“I appreciate your concern, but at this point, we are handling the vetting process to see who the flag bearer for NUP will be. Let us stick to that. I know Shamim Malende as an MP. We will address that issue at a later time after the vetting,” he told the media.
He further promised that once the election dust settles, he will grant journalists space to discuss the matter, leaving many curious about what he may reveal.
For now, the comedian-turned-politician says his priority is winning the trust of his party and constituents in Rubaga South ahead of the 2026 general elections.
