Comedian Sammy Okanya Publicly Apologizes to Bebe Cool Over Visit to Bobi Wine’s Office

Ugandan comedian Sammy Okanya, popularly known from the Da Mighty Family comedy group, has issued a heartfelt public apology to Bebe Cool, pleading for forgiveness following backlash over his recent visit to opposition leader Bobi Wine’s office.

Sammy sparked widespread criticism online after being spotted at Bobi Wine’s Kavule-based office, reportedly seeking financial aid. The move came as a shock to many, especially given his previous association with Bebe Cool—an artist known for his strong ties to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Following the public reaction, Sammy took to TikTok in a series of emotional videos to clarify the situation. He denied switching political allegiance or betraying anyone, emphasizing that Bebe Cool’s past financial support was offered on humanitarian grounds, not political conditions.

“Bebe Cool helped me when I was at my lowest, not to join NRM but because I was in need. His support came from a place of humanity,” Sammy stated in one of the videos.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, Sammy has now returned to social media—this time with a long, emotional apology addressed directly to Bebe Cool. The comedian expressed deep regret over visiting Bobi Wine, claiming his intentions were misunderstood and misrepresented online.

He revealed that his scheduled medical operation had been cancelled, and the catheter time had already lapsed, causing him immense pain and frustration. The visit to Bobi Wine, he said, was an act of desperation, not political betrayal.

“Papa Bebe, my intention was never to offend you but only to seek help in a desperate moment… If by my actions I caused disappointment or sorrow, then I beg you from the depths of my heart—please forgive me,” Sammy wrote.

He also took full responsibility for the social media storm, stating that his words had been taken out of context, magnified, and misinterpreted.

“Social media can easily turn people against one another, yet I believe you know me beyond the noise of the crowd,” he added.

Sammy pleaded with Bebe Cool not to abandon him in his time of need, stating that his life feels fragile and only Bebe’s "fatherly hand" could restore his hope and strength.

The deeply personal letter has drawn mixed reactions online. While some sympathize with Sammy’s vulnerability and desperation, others question the ethics of shifting between political figures during times of need.

As of now, Bebe Cool has not publicly responded to Sammy's apology.
