Renowned Ugandan content creator Raymond Kahuma has expressed deep disappointment after his attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest chapati ended in failure.
Kahuma, who previously made headlines for cooking the world’s largest Ugandan Rolex in 2022 and setting the record for the fastest time to make three chapatis, set out to cook a massive 200kg chapati. His goal was to surpass the long-standing record set by India’s Dagdu Seth Ganpati Sarvajanik Mahotsav, whose 145kg chapati has remained unbeaten since 22 September 2012.
However, despite heavy investment and extensive preparation, Kahuma’s ambitious attempt fell short.
According to the digital creator, the entire project cost him KSh 1,190,937, which went into logistics, ingredients, equipment, and assembling a team of skilled chapati chefs in Kenya.
Kahuma revealed that he spent over two weeks preparing for the record attempt, ensuring the dough, cooking equipment, and heating systems were ready for the challenge.
Unfortunately, technical issues and cooking difficulties prevented the chapati from achieving the required structure and consistency to qualify as a world-record breaker.
Following the unsuccessful attempt, Kahuma appealed to experts—both culinary and technical—to advise him on what might have gone wrong and how he could improve his strategy for another attempt.
He reaffirmed his commitment to breaking the record, saying he still believes the largest chapati title can be brought home with better preparation and expert support.
Kahuma’s fans across East Africa have encouraged him to keep pushing, praising his creativity, bravery, and determination to put Ugandan content on the global map.
