Cristiano Ronaldo sets a new record by becoming the first footballer billionaire in the history of the game according to Bloomberg’s billionaire index. The 40-year old Portuguese striker and captain’s net worth has been valued at a whopping $1.4 billion.
The former Sporting CP, Manchester United, Juventus, and Real Madrid striker recently signed a new contract with the Saudi Pro side, Al-Nassr, adding an incredible £ 492m to his wealth.
According to Bloomberg, between 2002 and 2023, Cristiano Ronaldo earned an estimated $550 m from just wages, $ 18 m deal with Nike, $175 m from endorsements with brands like Castrol and Amarni among others. The reported net worth also includes revenues from investments like hotel chains, gym, and others. Cristiano Ronaldo now joins the ranks of wealthy athletes like LeBron James, Micheal Jordan, Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, and Magic Johnson to mention but a few.
Some pundits and football fans criticized the player when he decided to join the Saudi Arabian Pro league game giants, Al-Nassr, claiming he was purely motivated by money, but the Portuguese star has consistently proven that he is fully behind the league and believes it has the potential to compete with European leagues.
“Iam happy because I know that the league is very competitive. Only the people who have never played in Saudi, they don't understand nothing about football say this league is not top five [in the world]. I believe 100% in my words, and the people that play in this league they know what I am talking about."
The five time Ballon d'Or winner has had an impressive goal scoring record at Al-Nassr, converting a stunning 104 goals in only 117 appearances in all competitions for the Saudi pro league side.
