Douglas Lwanga Defends Eddy Kenzo’s Legacy Amid Comparisons with Joshua Baraka

Renowned media personality Douglas Lwanga has weighed in on the ongoing debate comparing new-age sensation Joshua Baraka to Grammy-nominated artist Eddy Kenzo, calling it “a disservice” to overlook the contributions of the latter.

Speaking during a recent media interaction, Douglas Lwanga acknowledged Joshua Baraka’s rising influence and talent but emphasized the importance of honoring the pioneers who shaped the Ugandan music landscape.

“Joshua Baraka is very big, but it's also a disservice to compare Joshua to Kenzo,” Lwanga stated. “We can't appreciate the present without remembering the past. Kenzo paved the way for Joshua Baraka.”

Eddy Kenzo, who has been a household name for over a decade, is celebrated for putting Ugandan music on the global map with hits like Sitya Loss and for founding the Big Talent Entertainment label. His international accolades and collaborations have earned him the title of a trailblazer in Uganda’s music industry.

Joshua Baraka, on the other hand, has quickly risen to fame with his unique sound and lyrical prowess, capturing the attention of a new generation of music lovers both in Uganda and beyond.

Douglas Lwanga’s remarks come at a time when debates around generational shifts in the music industry are gaining traction on social media, with fans often pitting young stars against established legends.

The Purple Party founder’s comments serve as a reminder to celebrate growth in the industry while giving due credit to those who laid the groundwork.
