Eddy Kenzo Drags Events Promoter Nobat to Court Over Defamation Claims

Award-winning musician and Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) president Eddy Kenzo has announced plans to take legal action against events promoter Nobat Events over what he terms as false and defamatory allegations linking him to murder and attempted harm.

Over the weekend, Nobat made viral social media claims accusing Kenzo of plotting to harm him and of being involved in the death of the late music producer Danz Kumapeesa. The accusations sparked outrage and heated debate among fans and industry stakeholders.

Kenzo, who also serves as a Presidential Advisor on Art and Creatives, has strongly denied the allegations, calling them baseless and damaging to his reputation. He confirmed that his legal team has already begun the process of suing Nobat for defamation.

“He needs to provide court with evidence. It’s good he spoke on record; he talked about people’s lives. This matter has to go further, and he will answer in court,” Kenzo told journalists during a media briefing.

The “Sitya Loss” singer emphasized that such unfounded statements not only endanger lives but also tarnish the image of artists working hard to uplift Uganda’s music industry.

Legal experts say that if proven false, Nobat could face significant damages under Uganda’s defamation laws, which protect individuals from reputational harm caused by false public statements.

The case has stirred fresh debate on responsible communication and accountability in Uganda’s entertainment industry, especially in the era of social media where unverified claims spread rapidly.
