BET award-winning artist Eddy Kenzo has clapped back at fellow musician Bebe Cool following his controversial remarks made during his appearance on the Talk and Talk show, where Bebe claimed he deserves billions in government support for his long-standing contribution to the Ugandan music industry.
Kenzo, widely recognized for his international milestones, dismissed Bebe Cool’s demand for selective funding and emphasized the need for a more inclusive and fair approach to industry support.
“The idea doesn’t work for me because the music industry doesn’t revolve around just two or three people,” Kenzo stated. “It’s broad, and government funding is meant to serve everyone.”
While Bebe Cool’s comments seemed aimed at asserting his dominance in the Ugandan music space, Kenzo maintained that the industry thrives on diversity and collective progress, not individual entitlement.
In addition to challenging Bebe’s stance on funding, Kenzo also addressed the Gagamel boss’s attempt to downplay his international recognition. Bebe Cool questioned Kenzo’s global influence, despite Kenzo being the first Ugandan artist to win a BET award and perform at several prestigious international platforms.
“Everyone has their choice to see and analyze things the way they want,” Kenzo replied. “So if he said I’m not global, he might be correct in his ignorance. I’m not responsible for anybody’s ignorance.”
Kenzo added that his track record speaks for itself and doesn’t need defending.
“The good thing is that the facts and reality are there, of what I’ve achieved so far. So there’s no need to argue with certain remarks like Bebe Cool’s,” he concluded.
This exchange is just the latest in a long history of public spats between the two musical heavyweights, and it highlights the ongoing debate around government involvement and recognition in the Ugandan creative arts industry.
