Eddy Kenzo Threatens to Jail Creatives Over Fraud, Misuse of Government Funds

Big Talent boss and renowned Ugandan musician Eddy Kenzo has issued a stern warning to creatives involved in fraud and misuse of government funds, vowing to take legal action against offenders.

Speaking during the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) Annual General Meeting, Kenzo addressed growing concerns about corruption within the creative industry, particularly involving individuals who obtain money under false pretenses.

According to Kenzo, several people have been forming non-existent groups, fabricating membership lists, and presenting them to access government and federation funds meant to support genuine creatives. He further revealed that some individuals have gone as far as using fake or borrowed National Identity Cards (NINs) to secure the money, which is later misused for personal gain.

“People have been taking things lightly. They take money on behalf of many, but in reality, they are not real. Those who have been presenting other people’s national IDs and using them to obtain funds from the federation, and then misusing them. There are many, but I warn them, and they know I’m very serious this time,” Kenzo said.

The Big Talent CEO emphasized that such actions not only undermine the integrity of the creative sector but also deny deserving artists the support they genuinely need to grow their careers.

To curb the rising cases of fraud, Kenzo revealed that the Uganda National Musicians Federation will begin conducting physical verification and on-site inspections. This due diligence exercise aims to confirm the legitimacy of groups and individuals applying for financial support.

Kenzo warned that those found guilty of fraud will face legal consequences, including possible arrest and imprisonment, stressing that the federation will no longer tolerate abuse of funds meant to uplift the industry.

His remarks were met with mixed reactions, with some creatives applauding the tough stance, while others called for increased transparency and education on proper funding procedures.

The UNMF leadership reiterated its commitment to accountability, urging creatives to follow lawful processes and avoid shortcuts that could land them in serious trouble.
