During his time in South Africa, Awech refined his technical skills and broadened his artistic vision. Upon returning to Uganda, he pursued higher education at YMCA, where he earned both a diploma and a bachelor’s degree in Fashion and Design. Today, Awech balances his role as a fashion instructor at YMCA with leading his own enterprise, the Awech School of Creativity — a hub for nurturing aspiring designers and fostering innovation within Uganda’s growing fashion ecosystem.

His work spans stage wear costumes, men’s, women’s, and children’s attire, each piece marked by sophistication and meticulous craftsmanship. His command of decorative techniques and ability to manipulate materials like leather have earned him widespread acclaim.

In response to global environmental challenges, he transforms waste materials into wearable art — notably repurposing plastic bottles into garment buttons and creative fashion elements. His eco-conscious designs merge beauty with responsibility, redefining what sustainable fashion can achieve.

Awech’s impact has not gone unnoticed. He was honored as the East African Male Fashion Designer of the Year 2022 at the Upends Fashion Awards. His international recognition includes a Zikomo Award nomination in Zambia (2013). During the COVID-19 pandemic, he demonstrated resilience by serving as Garment Sampling Manager at Motiv UG, helping sustain the fashion industry through uncertain times.
