Popular entertainment analyst Frank Ntambi has been released on bail following several days in Luzira Prison, where he was held on charges of malicious damage and spreading false information—allegations reportedly brought forward by well-known talent manager Jeff Kiwa.
Ntambi was arrested last Friday after reporting to Kabalagala Police Station to retrieve his confiscated phone. Instead, he was detained and later remanded to Luzira Prison, sparking public interest and debate on social media.
Appearing before the Makindye Division Magistrate’s Court earlier today, Ntambi was granted bail upon payment of UGX 500,000 in cash. His three sureties were bonded at UGX 5 million each, a sum enforceable should they fail to ensure his appearance in court as required.
Speaking to the press outside the courthouse, Ntambi’s legal counsel, Elias Nalukoola, described the charges as "weak and fabricated," and expressed full confidence that his client would be exonerated in due time.
“We are not shaken. These charges have no legal foundation. My client is innocent and we’re ready to challenge every claim in court,” said Counsel Nalukoola.
The case has generated buzz in entertainment circles, particularly due to the involvement of Jeff Kiwa, a controversial figure known for managing some of Uganda’s top music acts. The nature of the alleged "malicious damage" and the "false information" has not yet been disclosed by prosecution, leaving the public guessing.
Ntambi, known for his bold commentary and unapologetic takes on Uganda’s entertainment industry, has yet to make a public statement since his release.
