From Law to Laughter: Jerry Berry’s Rise as Uganda’s Viral Social Media Influencer.

From Law to Laughter: Jerry Berry’s Rise as Uganda’s Viral Social Media Influencer.

At just 24 years old, Ereemye Jerry Benjamin, popularly known by his social media alias Jerry Berry, is proving that you don’t have to choose between a law career and a life in the limelight.

The lawyer-turned-content creator has taken TikTok by storm, winning hearts with his witty catchphrases, especially his viral line: “Let me tell you something,” and the now-famous “Tuli Banene Tetuli Batono” challenge, which catapulted him to online stardom in 2022. That moment, captured spontaneously at a house party, became a cultural sensation—prompting even top Ugandan artists like Rabadaba to jump on the trend.

With over 89,900 followers and 3.3 million views on TikTok, Jerry Berry’s blend of life-inspired parodies and unapologetic humor has made him one of the most recognizable young Ugandans in the digital space today.

But long before the cameras, he had dreams of becoming a musician. “I’ve been writing music since Primary Four,” he shares. Yet, when he discovered the high cost of music production, content creation became his creative outlet—one that has since led to brand endorsements with Captain Morgan, a judging role in the Bell Lager “Chief Enjoyment Officer” competition, and a one-year contract with USAID promoting HIV/AIDS awareness through oral testing campaigns.

Despite his online fame, Jerry Berry is no stranger to the courtroom. A graduate of Makerere University with a Bachelor of Laws and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre (LDC) in 2024, Jerry is committed to building a dual career in both law and content creation.

“I wouldn’t choose between the two,” he says. “Rather, I embrace both career paths.” His ability to balance these two demanding worlds lies in strategic planning and managing his time around his legal calendar.

Born a proud Musoga, Jerry speaks candidly about the discrimination he faced growing up. “It wasn’t okay to say you were Musoga back then,” he recalls. Mocked for his surname “Ereemye,” he even let classmates believe he was Nigerian. But today, he wears his identity with pride: “When you’re proud to be Musoga, it doesn’t matter what people say.”

His academic journey has been just as dynamic as his online one. Jerry attended over eight schools, including St. Xavio Junior School, Mother Kevin Memorial Nsambya, Hormisdallen Kirinya, and Makerere College School, before completing his A-Levels at Our Lady Queen of Africa. In university, he found a way to prove his resilience, graduating twice in 2024—first with his LLB in January, then from LDC in December.

Outside law and content creation, Jerry is a businessman. He runs Masterpiece Kampala, a fashion brand specializing in tailored apparel. “Besides content, I’m into business,” he says, noting that financial independence and entrepreneurial spirit have always been key to his drive.

As for his parents' support, Jerry shares a touching reflection: “My dad was worried at first, but the only way I could prove myself was by not failing.” Their trust was rewarded when he successfully completed both his degrees within a year.

Looking ahead, Jerry Berry has clear goals: “In five years, I see myself driving a Mercedes-Benz GLE with tinted windows, heading out to close a business deal.”

Whether it’s cracking jokes or cracking legal cases, one thing’s clear—Jerry Berry is not just a content creator; he’s a brand, a voice, and a rising force in Uganda’s creative economy.
