Government Spends over 3 billion shillings to distribute tablets to PDM SACCOS

In a bid to improve data management, monitoring, and reporting for the Parish Development Model (PDM) programs, the government of Uganda, through the ministry of ICT and the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has embarked on an ambitious technological push to facilitate 3900 SACCOS with tablets.

Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the minister of ICT and national guidance launched the second phase of the project and confirmed that the government aims to ensure every PDM SACCO uses smart devices and technology to implement their projects.

“Our goal is to ensure that every PDM SACCO uses technology and smart devices in implementing their activities,”

The minister stressed that SACCO leaders will first have to be trained how to use the device before handing it over.

“We shall begin by training SACCO leaders so that they can competently use these tablets. This will help track the progress of PDM activities and identify any challenges for timely solutions,” he said.

The devices come preloaded with six months of free internet data and have inbuilt tracking systems to safeguard it.

SACCO leaders were advised to take good care of the devices and encouraged to use it responsibly, to ensure effective monitoring and management of Parish Development Model (PDM) activities.
