Ugandan music icon Jose Chameleone has finally spoken out following the shocking revelation that his 17-year marriage to Daniella Atim is officially coming to an end.
Born Joseph Mayanja, the Leone Island boss addressed the swirling divorce reports in an emotionally charged video that surfaced online this week, revealing details behind the ongoing legal battle between him and Daniella—who filed for divorce last week after five years of separation.
In her petition, Daniella allegedly seeks full custody of their five children, ownership of their marital home in Seguku, child support, and coverage of court fees. The divorce papers, according to reports, cite abandonment and a long period of separation as key reasons behind her decision.
However, Chameleone—clearly pained but composed—insists that the fight for property is unnecessary and that everything he owns was meant for their children, not for personal gain.
“What we are fighting for doesn’t even belong to us, but the kids,” he said. “We will have to leave it all behind. This is not a situation that warrants a fight. They belong to the kids.”
The legendary singer stressed that although he's being pushed to draft a will as part of the legal process, he finds it ironic to divide property while still alive.
“The only problem I have now is that they want me to draft a will, yet I’m still alive. If the law takes us that far, I will have to sign it. But I didn’t work for anything but my life and my kids,” Chameleone explained.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2008, share five children: Abba (19), Alpha (16), Alba (13), Ama (11), and Xara (6).
Despite the personal turmoil, Chameleone made it clear that he remains focused on his role as a father.
“Just tell everyone that I do not have any stress or any trouble. I just worked hard for my children, and I will fight for them,” he declared. “Even if I were a billionaire, I would still give it all to them.”
He also took a swipe at bloggers and social media users who have sensationalized his private life, saying he was unfazed by public judgment and would not allow it to cloud his priorities.
While Chameleone's personal life may be in the headlines, his message remains consistent: his children come first. The iconic artist, known for hits like Valu Valu and Tubonge, appears determined to handle the separation with grace—without losing sight of what matters most.
As legal proceedings unfold, the country watches closely—but for Chameleone, the fight is no longer about marriage. It’s about legacy.
