Kampala City Festival Set for a Grand Comeback – Official Launch Date Confirmed

Kampala, Uganda – August 5, 2025 — Kampala is about to light up again! After years of silence, the much-loved Kampala City Festival is making a grand return — and it’s bigger, better, and bolder.

The exciting announcement was made by the newly appointed KCCA Executive Director, Buzaki Sharifah, who confirmed that the official launch and festival date will be unveiled on August 6, 2025, at City Hall.

Buzaki, who is already winning hearts with her vibrant leadership style, said the festival will be more than just an event.

“It is not just about fun. It’s about coming together as a city, recognizing how far we’ve come, and renewing our collective commitment to building a cleaner and more liveable Kampala,” she stated.

She added that the revived festival will shine a spotlight on innovation, culture, creativity, and the undeniable community spirit that defines Kampala.

The Kampala City Festival was originally introduced by former Executive Director Jenifer Musisi and quickly rose to become one of the biggest street festivals in East Africa. From live music and parades to food fairs and exhibitions, it offered an unmatched blend of entertainment and unity — until it was cancelled in 2018.

But now, the city is buzzing again. Social media is already awash with excitement as Kampalans and Ugandans at large prepare for what’s expected to be a historic return.

Aside from fun and festivities, the festival will also serve as a hub for networking, cultural exchange, and youth empowerment. It’s not just a party; it’s a movement — a celebration of how far Kampala has come and where it’s headed.

Kelele UG will be bringing you exclusive updates live from City Hall on August 6th — including the official dates, headlining acts, partners, and everything in between.
