Brighton and Hove Albion 2 – 1 Manchester City
Manchester City’s difficult run of form deepened as they suffered a second straight Premier League defeat, this time falling 2-1 to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium. The loss continues to raise concerns about Josep Guardiola’s side, who were eager to bounce back following their 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
The visitors appeared to be in control early on when star striker Erling Haaland put Manchester City ahead just after the 30-minute mark with a clinical finish, making it 1-0. However, Brighton responded strongly in the second half, turning the game on its head.
In the 67th minute, Brighton substitute Brian Gruda skillfully rounded off City’s goalkeeper James Trafford to level the score at 1-1. The comeback was completed in dramatic fashion late in the game when former Manchester City midfielder James Milner stepped up to convert a penalty in the 87th minute, securing a 2-1 victory for the Seagulls.
Milner’s goal was historic, making him the second oldest player to score in the Premier League at 39 years and 90 days, just behind Teddy Sheringham, who scored at 40 years and 256 days.
The result leaves Manchester City facing mounting pressure as they look to find their rhythm and return to winning ways in the competitive Premier League season.
