The Red devils produced an excellent performance in their 2-0 win against Sunderland, improving moods at the old Trafford and easing pressure on Ruben Amorim ahead of the international break.
Just hours before the game, rumors were circulating about the potential sacking of the coach in case the Red devils lose against Sunderland. Ruben Amorim himself admitted that there was growing pressure and that the Manchester United hierarchy were losing patience.
"Nobody here is naive, we understand that we need results to continue the project." He said in a press conference. There is no doubt, Ruben Amorim needed this win to secure his job.
Manchester United started the game in high spirits, the thunderous cheers and encouragement from the home fans gave the team confidence right from the beginning of the match. Mason mount, in the 8th minute, opened the scoring with a perfect finish from inside the penalty area. That goal offered Ruben Amorim's side a ray of hope and encouragement to press harder for a second goal.
23 minutes later, Benjamin Sesko put the Red devils on the lead after a close-range shot, resulting from Casemiro’s long throw.
Sunderland hoped for a first half boost when they were awarded a penalty, but the decision was reversed.
The second half of the game was largely uneventful, United were in control of the game for the most part. Sunderland found it difficult to penetrate the home side's solid defense, they couldn't even steal a consolation goal.
With this, Amorim secured three straight wins at home, which gives him some room to breathe amidst mounting pressure from the club’s hierarchy for poor performances.
