MBM singer Mary Bata has opened up about her decision to stay single and focus on her music career, saying that marriage is not part of her plans at the moment.
In a recent interview, the “Katimba” hitmaker explained that while many of her peers are walking down the aisle, she is dedicating all her time and energy to building her music brand.
“My problem was that when I was leaving the village for Kampala, I was only focused on work. I told my family that I was going to work, and that is precisely what I’m doing,” Mary Bata shared.
“If I’m meant to find love in Kampala, then so be it, because every good thing I came for is here.”
The singer dismissed rumors suggesting she had given up on love because of past heartbreaks. She clarified that she has only dated a few men and that those relationships often distracted her from her goals.
“I have not been with many men. You rarely hear any drama about me concerning that. I’m still fulfilling my dreams, and marriage wasn’t part of them,” she said.
“At this time, if I need it, I will also go for it. Relationships drive us back. I’m a poor woman who is focused on working. You might be with someone with different intentions, so when I realized that, I decided to step back and focus on my music.”
Mary Bata emphasized that her fans remain her top priority as she continues to work on new projects under the MBM label.
“I’m channelling all my energy into giving my fans the best of me through music,” she added.
With her renewed focus on her craft, Mary Bata remains one of the few Ugandan female artists determined to prioritize career growth over societal expectations.
