American Grammy Award-winning artist Matt B has arrived in Uganda alongside his wife and manager, proudly carrying four Grammy trophies—two of which will remain in the Pearl of Africa as a tribute to Ugandan talent.
The celebrated singer, best known in Uganda for his Grammy-nominated collaboration “Gimme Love” with superstar Eddy Kenzo, touched down with a mission: to personally honor the Ugandan creatives who played a pivotal role in the success of his Grammy-winning album Alkebulan II.
The visit marks a historic first, as Uganda—and East Africa—celebrate their inaugural Grammy win. Two of the golden gramophones were officially awarded to Ugandan producers Bashkilla and BiT HD, who co-produced the album that blends global Afro-inspired rhythms with rich African storytelling.
“This is more than just a personal win,” Matt B told reporters at Entebbe Airport. “It’s a moment for Uganda, for East Africa, for the entire continent to realize the power and reach of African music and creativity.”
Beyond production, the album’s lyrical power was driven by a team of gifted Ugandan songwriters: Ghost Elnino, Rulz, Ziginana, and Tarley. Each is set to receive a Certificate of Recognition from the Recording Academy for their contribution to the project.
Matt B’s arrival has sparked excitement across the Ugandan entertainment industry, not just for the Grammy win but also for what it symbolizes — the global recognition of African artistry, collaboration, and cultural excellence.
As part of his visit, Matt B is expected to participate in a series of local engagements, including media appearances and closed celebrations with the team behind Alkebulan II.
Uganda has officially joined the global Grammy map — and the beat goes on.
