Ugandan music fans are left stunned as Dokta Brain officially confirms his split from Zhafar Music Agency, only months after signing a highly publicized partnership in March 2025. The abrupt exit has sparked widespread discussion in the Ugandan music industry, with many wondering what went wrong.
Speaking on the decision, Dokta Brain revealed that the partnership failed to achieve the results he had hoped for, particularly in pushing his music into the mainstream market.
“The problem was that the music didn’t enter the mainstream. The album failed to do that, and we were supposed to go on an African tour for it, but that never happened,” he said.
The fast-rising Ugandan artist added that his pace and ambitions moved faster than the agency could handle.
“We reached a point where my speed and what I expected from them wasn’t similar. My speed was too much, and we couldn’t be on the same level anymore.”
Despite the split, Dokta Brain expressed gratitude to Zhafar Music Agency for supporting his artistic vision and contributing to his album production. He also confirmed that he retains full rights to his music.
“I cannot disclose what the contract terms were because it was part of the agreement not to publicly disclose that information. But they don’t own my music because I’m the one who writes it.”
The split has ignited conversations about artist-label partnerships in Uganda, with fans and industry insiders eager to see what Dokta Brain’s next move will be. Analysts say this could signal a growing trend of independent music careers in Uganda, as artists increasingly seek to maintain control over their work.
With his creative energy fully intact, fans are excited to see what Dokta Brain has in store next, and whether he will release new music independently or sign with another label.
