The battle for the NRM First National Vice Chairperson (Female) position is intensifying, with Speaker of Parliament Anita Among emerging as the clear frontrunner after a string of overwhelming victories in the West Nile region. Preliminary results from the NRM elections show Among leading with an unbroken streak of wins, leaving her opponent Rebecca Kadaga without a single vote across multiple districts.
Among’s commanding lead was confirmed in the following districts:
- Zombo: 66 votes – Kadaga 0
- Nebbi: 117 votes – Kadaga 0
- Pakwach: 60 votes – Kadaga 0
- Moyo: 67 votes – Kadaga 0
- Yumbe: 102 votes – Kadaga 0
- Obongi: 49 votes – Kadaga 0
- Adjumani: 65 votes – Kadaga 0
- Arua: 51 votes – Kadaga 0
In total, Anita Among has secured 334 votes across West Nile, while Kadaga has yet to register a single vote in the region.
This landslide performance comes amid high political tension within the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC), where recent meetings at State House revealed sharp divisions between senior party leaders. The contest between Among and Kadaga has become one of the most closely watched races in the party’s internal elections, with implications that could shape the future direction of the National Resistance Movement.
Political analysts suggest Among’s dominance is rooted in her strong grassroots mobilization, previous endorsements from NRM district chairpersons, and visible national leadership. Her efforts in championing key development initiatives — notably the revival of Busoga University — have further cemented her popularity within the party base.
“Anita Among’s clean sweep in West Nile is a clear signal of shifting power dynamics within the NRM,” said a senior political observer. “This is more than a regional win; it’s a message from the party’s grassroots about the direction they want.”
While the full results are yet to be announced, momentum is firmly on Among’s side. The question now remains whether Rebecca Kadaga, a veteran political figure and former Speaker of Parliament herself, can stage a late comeback as voting continues in other regions.
The NRM elections are expected to conclude in the coming days, with the final outcome likely to influence party strategy ahead of the 2026 general elections.
