Over 432000 Candidates Start UCE Exams Today

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has confirmed that over 432,000 senior four finalists are meant to commence exams on October 13, with candidates sitting Geography Paper 1 amidst tight security. 

The board reported that examination materials were disseminated to all exam centers in time, guaranteeing the exercise a smooth start. Over 190 personnel have also been deployed to supervise and assist candidates and ensure smooth running of the entire process. 


In a statement, UNEB notes that conducting exams with integrity and fairness is of utmost priority, “ The examinations are being conducted under the theme, "Embracing security and holistic assessment of learners in a dynamic environment,” the board noted in a statement.


Of the over 432,000 candidates registered to sit UCE exams this year, 52.7 percent are female and 23.7 percent are male.  There are also students with special needs; the blind, deaf, and some with severe physical handicaps. Special support has also been provided for the blind, students with low vision, and the deaf. 


Braille answer sheets have been provided for blind candidates, large-print question papers for those with low vision, sign-language interpreters for the deaf. Learners with writing and reading difficulties have also been catered for. 


The board appealed to stakeholders, parents, schools, and security agencies to remain vigilant  and uphold sanctity of the examinations.
