Ugandan veteran musician Daniel Kazibwe, popularly known as Ragga Dee, has officially threatened legal action against fellow singer Mikie Wine over alleged copyright infringement concerning his classic hit “Oyagala Cash.”
The controversy erupted after Mikie Wine—who is also the younger brother of political figure and musician Bobi Wine—released a song titled “Zuena,” which Ragga Dee claims is an unauthorized remake of his 2004 hit “Nkuguddemu Oyagala Cash.”
In a legal notice dated July 16, 2025, Ragga Dee, through his legal representatives MDG Law Advocates, accuses Mikie Wine of reproducing and performing the song without his consent, thus violating Uganda’s Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act (Cap 222).
According to the legal document, Ragga Dee copyrighted the original track over two decades ago and has maintained exclusive rights to perform it for the past 21 years.
“The said act by Mikie Wine constitutes a blatant infringement of our client’s proprietary rights. He failed to seek authorization before reproducing, altering, and performing the copyrighted song,” the notice reads in part.
The document further demands that Mikie Wine pays UGX 300 million in compensation within seven (7) days of receiving the notice or face court proceedings.
“Zuena,” Mikie Wine’s controversial track, touches on themes of love, materialism, and betrayal—lyrics Ragga Dee believes were layered onto the same rhythm and structure as his original creation without due credit.
As of now, Mikie Wine has not publicly responded to the allegations.
This case has reignited debate in Uganda’s music industry about intellectual property rights, with fans and stakeholders watching closely to see how the matter unfolds.
