Sevilla’s 4-1 Victory Over Barcelona Placed Real Madrid at the summit of La Liga

Real Madrid are back at the summit of La Liga table after Sevilla thrashed Barcelona 4-1 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium on 5th October. Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring against his former employer after converting a penalty resulting from a foul against Isaac Romero by Ronald Araujo.

The referee had overlooked the challenge but changed his decision after closely reviewing the incident on the screen. The 11th minute goal boosted Sevilla's resolve, forcing them to press the visitors harder. In the 37th minute, Romero's well-taken finish doubled the home side's lead.

Marcus Rashford restored Barcelona's hope towards the end of the first half when he converted a stunning volley.

While Hansi Flick's side looked much improved in the second half, they couldn't match Sevilla.

Lewandowski missed a penalty in the 77th minute further frustrating any dismal chance for a Barcelona comeback. Carmona and Akor Adams scored late in the game frustrating any dismal hope Barcelona had to pick a point.

Sevilla have now won two games back to back, which puts them on the right track ahead of the international break.
