Studio Burglary Puts Producer Jonah Muwanguzi in Crisis, 60,000 Unreleased Songs Lost
Renowned audio producer Jonah Muwanguzi has been left devastated after unknown assailants broke into his studio and stole vital music production equipment, dealing a massive blow to his career and that of the artists he works with.
According to Muwanguzi, the intruders made away with key items including microphones, speakers, subwoofers, and hard disks that contained unreleased music projects. While some of the stolen equipment was later found dumped in different locations, the most critical loss remains the hard disks that stored over 60,000 unreleased songs.
Among the projects lost were works belonging to notable Ugandan artists, including the late Hon. Kato Lubwama, Hon. Geoffrey Lutaaya, and Stabua Natooro. The magnitude of the loss has thrown Muwanguzi and the affected artists into disarray.
One of Muwanguzi’s close friends, Mayanja, expressed deep concern over the situation, confirming the extent of the loss and the emotional toll it has taken on the producer.
In his plea to the public, Muwanguzi urged anyone who may come across individuals selling studio equipment resembling his to contact him immediately. He is hopeful this may help trace the culprits and recover some of the stolen property.
He also expressed frustration over what seems to be a targeted effort to sabotage his career, referencing a previous incident in 2017 when his studio was deliberately set ablaze. “If there is anyone who doesn’t want me to continue doing music production, let them come and tell me directly,” Muwanguzi said emotionally.
The incident has sparked concern within the music industry, with many calling for tighter security measures for studios and greater support for local creatives facing similar challenges.
