Tension in NUP as Balimwezo Reportedly Promised Shs25m Mobilization Job if He Loses Lord Mayor Race

#UgDecides2026 — Trusted sources within the National Unity Platform (NUP) have revealed that Eng. Balimwezo has been assured of a lucrative position in the party’s mobilization department should he lose the Kampala Lord Mayor race.

According to insiders, the deal guarantees Balimwezo a monthly package of Shs25 million plus other allowances as part of his new role. The arrangement, however, is said to have unsettled Habib Buwembo, the current NUP Chief Mobilizer, who reportedly feels sidelined by the development.

Eng. Balimwezo faces a formidable opponent in the incumbent Erias Lukwago, who remains a strong force in Kampala politics. Analysts believe Lukwago could still attract sympathy votes from city dwellers, especially hawkers and traders affected by the Nakivubo Channel redevelopment project, giving him a potential advantage in the race.

Despite his long-standing dominance, Lukwago’s camp is reportedly uneasy about Balimwezo’s growing influence. Sources close to City Hall indicate that Lukwago’s concerns intensified after his former Personal Assistant, Deo Mbabazi, joined Balimwezo’s campaign team and began reorganizing grassroots structures that once supported the incumbent.

As the #UgDecides2026 elections draw closer, NUP’s internal politics and shifting alliances are expected to significantly influence the outcome of the hotly contested Kampala Lord Mayor race.
