Things got heated in the Ugandan music scene this week after Weasel clapped back at rapper Keko for her comments on their hit 2011 collab, "How We Do It (Remix)", during her appearance on the Baboon Forest Podcast.
While reflecting on her rise in the industry, Keko was asked how the remix with Radio & Weasel came about. Her response?
"I didn’t know them at the time. Weasel just put his voice on the song without even consulting me. And honestly, my original was already better than the remix."
Well, that didn’t sit right with Weasel.
Taking to social media, the Goodlyfe star fired back:
"Why are people so ungrateful sometimes? 😊 The truth still remains — we gave you a remix that gave you the Most Gifted East African Video award at the Channel O Music Video Awards in 2011. Credit where credit’s due 🙏. Remixes shine, but originals pave the way 💫. Don’t talk too much nonsense to discredit us.”
The "How We Do It (Remix)" wasn’t just a remix — it was a major breakthrough for both artists, gaining regional airplay and putting Ugandan hip-hop and Afro-pop fusion on the map. The track clinched the Channel O Most Gifted East African Video award, solidifying its place in Uganda’s music history.
Keko’s comments have since stirred mixed reactions online — with some fans defending her right to speak her truth, while others say she’s downplaying a key moment that helped push her career across borders.
One fan commented, "Without that remix, many outside UG wouldn’t have known Keko. Let’s be honest!" Another wrote, "Both versions were fire — let’s respect each other’s contributions."
Whatever side of the fence you’re on, one thing is clear: the legacy of “How We Do It” still hits hard.
