Winnie Nwagi Tells Critics: Demand Good Music, Not My Nyash

Swangz Avenue singer Winnie Nwagi has urged fans to focus on her music instead of her body, responding to critics concerned about her recent weight loss.

Known for her energetic performances and strong stage presence, Nwagi has recently undergone a visible transformation, prompting discussions among fans about the reduction in her hips and lower body. Some of these comments, she says, have put unnecessary pressure on performers.

During her performance on the latest episode of Shades of Kampala, Winnie Nwagi addressed fans directly, highlighting the tension between audience expectations and artistic focus.

“These days, you keep asking where my ‘nyash’ disappeared to. If someone gets bothered by these questions and demands, they end up displaying their bums because that is what you keep asking for,” she said. “But if you are demanding good music, something that some of us are doing, that is where the problem comes from. When I’m giving you good music, and you are demanding nyash, that is where we are confused.”

Nwagi emphasized that her priority is music, urging fans to appreciate her talent rather than judge her appearance.

Her message comes amid broader conversations about body image and performance pressure in Uganda’s music industry, where artists often face unrealistic expectations about their looks. Fans have applauded Nwagi for standing her ground and championing talent over appearance, with many praising her for encouraging a shift toward body positivity.
